THE FLAT STANLEY

The Flat Stanley

The Flat Stanley emerged from the vibrant Ayrshire music scene in the late 1980s, forged in the pubs, clubs, and back rooms of the Shire. Their sound was steeped in rhythm and blues but carried a distinctly local edge: raw, honest, melodic, and unmistakably Ayrshire.

The classic line-up featured:

Colin Stewart – Lead Guitar & Vocals
Stuart Allison – Bass Guitar
Mark Cassidy – Drums
Rab Wilson – Harmonica
Craig McAvoy – Rhythm Guitar

From their beginnings, The Flat Stanley became a mainstay of the local live circuit—seemingly everywhere at once. For years they were a fixture in almost every pub and small venue across Ayrshire, building a loyal following before taking their high-energy shows further afield across Scotland and eventually onto the European continent. Their gigs were known for their drive, warmth, and irrepressible spirit; the mark of a band who loved what they did and played like it mattered.

In November and December of 1989, the band entered Fool on the Hill Studios in Knockentiber to capture that energy on tape. Working alongside the late Bill Samson, whose engineering and mixing shaped the final sound, the band produced an album that remains both a time capsule and a testament to their craft.
